The Slana River originates in Stolicke Mountains in Slovakia and it is an important right-hand tributary of the Tisza River in neighbouring Hungary. Most recently this river has been facing an ecological disaster. Contaminated water from an old and non-functional iron ore mine in Nizna Slana is entering the river turning it orange. The consequences of contamination on the river are currently being investigated.
