This was my first sighting of one of these snakes. According to http://ufwildlife.ifas.ufl.edu/snakes/stripedcrayfishsnake.shtml, this snake is fully grown. I was very surprised by its seemingly curiosity of me. Most snakes I've encountered on my hikes, flee as quickly as possible. However, this one was on the side of the lime rock trail and maneuvering around in the grass. After noticing me, it came out of the grass onto the lime rock trail road towards me. I wasn't certain if it was going to be aggressive, so I gave it plenty of space. It definitely was very curious. It finally went back to the grass and continued to meander through it, so I left it to find its way to its destination. Photographed at Ocklawaha Prairie in Marion County, FL.

Thank you for liking this photo. I know that most people don't like snakes, but they are great for our ecosystems and like it or not, they are part of nature. :)

Luckily we don't have a great deal of snakes in the UK, those which we have are mainly harmless grass snakes and adders, I think it may be a case of many people are more afraid of snakes rather than dislike them. Paul.

Yes, I agree. I know most people here are scared of them, even though most snakes in the US are harmless. I personally find them intriguing. :)
