Before my father passed away he told me that he always wanted to go to Alaska and step on a glacier. So in perfect form we all agreed to go. Not 3 hours on board, my father cut open his leg on the metal bed frame in his stateroom. Now most people would not be too happy about this, but away my father and I went to the Sick Bay for about forty stitches. Of course you can imagine how happy we were when we finally got back to the cabin. My mother was being calmed down with a good gin and tonic because she looked ready to explode. This was after all a once in a lifetime trip! My sister, sitting on the couch (We all shared a suite) drinking her favorite drink- a can of Coke, looked like she was going to break out in tears. It was at this point that my father could see how angry my mom was so he did what he did best. He defused the situation. He grabbed my Angry Bird hat and put it on his head and then we all burst out laughing. That was my dad. Taking on life's challenges with a sense of humor. Now there is not a day that goes by that I don't miss him and his laughter! But what I do have is wonderful memories. I love you dad!
