A man selling freshly-picked catnip on the sidewalk in New York City for $2 per bag with all kinds of cat regalia around him: collages, a book entitled “Me and my human”, photographs, clippings from magazines, etc. I asked him where he got the catnip and he sounded evasive, saying he picked it in the countryside in Connecticut. This picture was published on the cover of the first issue of Boston’s Spare Change newspaper.
