I’ve been on numerous trips that where planned for a specific type of photo. A large number of those didn't result in the photo I had envisioned. So it was a pleasant surprise when I was able to shoot this scene on what was supposed to be just a scouting trip for the next crescent moon. I had planned on figuring out where the moon would set along this ridgeline during sunrise. I had a nice sleep for about 2 hours the night before when I suddenly woke up and couldn't fall asleep again for a long time. When the alarm went off in the morning, I tried to talk myself out of heading out to shoot. Luckily I failed. When I got to this location I was thrilled to realize that there was a possibility that the full moon might align with the tree. I spent a lot of time positioning my camera and was able to capture this scene.
