This is a photograph of a partial Solar eclipse that occurred on October 23,2014.
A partial Solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun thereby blocking the Sun and casting a shadow over the Earth.

The prism effect you see in the photograph is caused by the sunlight shining on layer's of exposed x-ray film.
I used the exposed x-ray film to cover my camera lens with to tone down the Suns bright rays.
I also covered my viewfinder with x-ray film to protect my eyes.
The Sun can damage your eyes rather quickly if you look at it directly during an event such as this.
There are expensive filters and equipment you can purchase for these events.
But Ingenuity is My Bestfriend hence the x-ray film. :D

The black dot's you see in the middle of the Sun is a Spectacular Sunspot aka a flare I was fortunate enough to capture.
This Photograph is featured in CNN Stars and Space Section.
