For my last trip to NYC, I had made the newly-opened One-World-Trade Observation Deck a priority. I chose an evening time just before sunset for what I'd hoped was the best photo opportunities, and stayed at the top until nearly closing time. In all that time, however, I didn't feel particularly strongly about any one my shots from up there. The level was just too high for most of the city, and the sunset itself was rather lackluster. Glad for the experience, but photographically disappointed, I packed my stuff and headed out. When I got to the ground floor, I exited on the subway side, opposite of where I'd entered. As I passed through the doors into a wide, sweeping vista of white columns over white marble, I choked on my breath. I knew my shot was here in the basement, rather than the top. There was a lone security guard walking around, and I asked him if he minded stepping between the columns on the left for a moment while I took a shot. He happily obliged, and I was thrilled. Then, as I was exiting, I looked over my head, and saw this second shot.
