My ID book says it a Long-tailed Giant Ichneumonid Wasp. Wikipedia should give more info. Your photos look awesome. Great shots!

Thanks so much for finding out what this is. There would be tons of them on my trees and they were mating. I thought I would see some babies or eggs soon after but nothing!

Yikes, you and your bugs. A long-tailed, etc etc etc. Wasp at any rate. I can't say beautiful because bugs are not my cup of tea - nothing more than 4 legs for me. But you sure took a good picture of it!

I remember when you took your first bumble shot! I'll go up to 8 legs but with macro, I'm shaking like a leaf in case whatever I'm shooting lands on me or my camera.

According to google it is a Magarhyssa Macrurus or long tailed giant Ichneumonid wasp.
