I took this photograph a while back for my series "Masks." I had the idea of depicting both emotional ideas as well as cultural idea. The object itself is a Dia de los Muertos mask, typically seen during the festivals and events. I enjoyed the idea of cherishing and remembering those who have passed. The tombstone also adds to that idea of death. It's much different in America, where we mourn, however, the culture in other countries tries to cherish and remember the wonderful lives of those that have passed. I wanted to depict that in this picture and I hope I did a good job of doing so.
