This amazing creature flies almost exclusively over water for it's entire life. They are not only able to catch insects in flight like other bats, but they can also snatch them from the surface of the water. I was lucky enough to see this in action first hand, sadly in spite of my perseverance of 6 nights in a row trying, I could only get images like this. They would snatch the pond skaters and other flies from the water so quickly, that I would see them dip for less than a second and leave barely a ripple on the water. Flying just high enough over the water to stay dry and not catch their wings.
As they navigated the river, they I noticed that they would pass almost dead center, between two large boulders that protruded from the water.
