What was surprising about Godafoss falls is how easy it was to get there! We actually drove right by it as we couldn't believe it was "right there"! It is literally 5 minutes from the junction of Húsavik and the ring road..if you cross the bridge you drove right past it..like we did! The rough translation of Godafoss is Waterfall of the Gods; named from the legend of a holy man who lived around the year 1000, and by accepting Christianity into Iceland, he tossed his Norse God statues into the falls. A bit passionate, but the man sure picked a beautiful place to toss his stuff!⠀
The east side of the falls was my favorite. It was a perfect place to photograph and get soaked by all the mist. We must have spent about 2 hours there, shooting and watching the power of the water crashing nearly 40ft into the river below. Around this time it was about 5am, and I was barely keeping my eyes open. We said goodnight to the Waterfall of the Gods and the Norse Gods sleeping underneath, and found a place to camp for the day.
