The iconic Chain Bridge across the Danube river connects Buda and Pest, the eastern and western sides of Hungary's capital city. First erected in 1849 after the Hungarian Revolution, the bridge was destroyed in 1945 by the retreating Germans and was rebuilt in 1949.
