This vervet mother monkey and her cute baby live in the grounds of the Royal Livingstone Hotel in Livingstone Zambia situated in Musi-o-tunya wild life Park just metres away from the jaw dropping spectacular Victoria Falls. They live in groups and spend their days swinging amongst the canopy of beautiful trees, foraging for food, grooming one another and playing. They chatter amongst themselves and come particularly vocal when they sense danger as they alert the rest of the grip. I observed this as I noticed a hotel security man approach with what appeared to be a catapult. He assured me that they did not harm the monkeys but simply scared them away. I was unconvinced and later after having heard more commotion noticed the same man with a duffle bag emblazoned with a skull and cross bones on it. The bag was obviously heavy and I suspect he was removing a dead monkey. After this incident the monkeys vanished and did not return for a full 24 hours. Given these beautiful creatures live in a wildlife park I think it is incredibly sad that their lives are snuffed out so they don't annoy the visiting 'humans' =(
