On my latest trip to the 808, our island hopping put us back on Oahu for one final night. Unlike living there, or a typical vacation, we stayed at an airport hotel for simplicity - at least until we wanted a bite to eat. So, after two weeks of non-stop hiking, my fiance and I set out on foot again. We started by cruising the beach at Waikiki and ended by finding some quiet time after sunset along Magic Island Beach Park. This was one of my favorite metal detecting spots when I was Kama'aina, and always has a kind of quiet charm, regardless of the time. At one point, we took a seat on the east side of the park, and I found myself looking at Waikiki towering over the Ala Wai canal and boat harbor in a light that I hadn't seen before. That was in late 2014, and is both my last, and one of my most vivid memories of the islands.
