The foreground of this image shows the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in the Thingvellir National Park, in Southwestern Iceland which marks the boundary where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates both meet and separate. Volcanic eruptions push the two tectonic plates apart at between 1 cm to 20 cms per year.
The part of the ridge here is known as the Reykjanes Ridge.
The views from the divide in the earth's crust provides stunning views of the snowcapped mountains, rivers, dwellings, roads and sums up Iceland and it's total dramatic and vaired beauty in a nutshell. A view that is difficult to beat in my eyes. I took this photograph whilst standing on one continent and looking directly at another.
