As the summer months begin to take hold north of the hemisphere, the outer band of the Milky Way galaxy becomes more prominent within the night sky. The sky conditions were ideal on this occasion, although the outer galaxy band faced east forcing the shot to encounter light pollution from nearby Weymouth on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. The lighthouse is nestled on a rocky tide island several miles of the mainland. Steeped in history providing guidance to safe passage around the island of Portland projecting beams into the blackness of the busy shipping lane along the English Channel.
