Waxwings appear only twice a year in germany. They come in winter from Seberia and fly through. So they stay just for a couple of days. The picture was taken in Bavaria, Germany. In former times they were known as plague birds. The people thought that something terrible will happen when they saw such a bird. When I saw these birds I was more than excited. I haven't had my camera with me so I went home as fast as possible and came back. Unfortunately they were gone and I thought that I've missed my chance. When I passed again half an houre later they sit there once more eating the small apples. My heart jumped so hard I wasn't sure if I could handle the camera but I've made it.

The Cedar Waxwings are beautiful. I'm sorry you only get to see them a few days a year. Here in Washington State we see them most of the summer. I have three photos of them in my Wild Birds album on ViewBug you might enjoy seeing.

Thanks for your interesting comment. It's a pity I've seen them only twice in my whole life. The first time they were so far away I just managed to make out the shape and to recognize what kind of bird it was. I made this picture when I saw them the second time just half a year later. Be sure I'll visit your gallery.

I love the way you can spot from this picture which apple the bird was eating. Somehow in your excitement you took a perfectly composed picture with the yellow of the tail being one of the focus points. Wow - really well done!!
