I don't often see the couple together and up this close. The female is on the left and the male on the right. At times it is really hard to tell them apart but after spending many many hours with them in the woods I have noticed a few main differences. She is slightly larger in size and the brown patch on the top of her head is a more solid color. The male (I call him Freckles) has more of a speckled brown patch on his. He also has a band around one of his legs as he was in a wildlife rehab centre (OWL) for about 3 months after he was hit by a car. The accident happened in the early spring of 2015. He seems to be doing fine back in the wilderness after recovering from a wing and head injury suffered from getting hit by a car. It was only after I got enough photos of the band that I put all the numbers together and called OWL (Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society) to get the report on him. I saw them mating about a month ago (May 2017) so there should be some new baby owls this summer. Last summer they successfully raised 3 young ones :)
