We found a dead dragonfly and decided to REALLY push our macro capabilities.
The precise magnification gets a little... tricky to calculate at this level, because working distance, microscope objective, focal length of the secondary lens, and crop factors, etc, all play a part. At a guess, I'd say it's somewhere between 60-100x magnification.
This is the combination of 73 focus-merged shots. You can see both the debris lodged on and between the compound eye "cells" as well as the reflection of hairs on the dragonfly's body and scratches in the various lenses.
Sorry, our ultrasonic cleaner is toast, and the soft box was a tad overpowered.
Still not bad considering I rarely go this far. :-)
