Taken late afternoon, when it was cooler and there were fewer tourists around, this is the Doric Temple of Athena Lindia which sits above the town of Lindos on the island of Rhodes, Greece. This temple attained its final form in around 300 BC. This is a natural citadel which in Hellenistic and Roman times grew in size as more and more buildings were added. However by early medieval times had fallen into disuse and then in about the 14th century was partly overlaid by a massive fortress by the Knights Of St John, this was to defend the island of Rhodes against the Ottomans.
