While photographing some red-wing black birds, I noticed this rather unique duck feeding amongst a group of mallards in a local pond. After some research, I discovered that this type of hybrid is referred to as "bibbed mallard". Interestingly enough, after capturing this shot, I discovered that several of the mallards in the pond that day were in fact, hybrid mallards. And although hybridization can be problematic for certain species, in this case, it has undoubtedly created a rather unique and beautiful specimen.
