Female malard came and sat at our feet on a park bench in Charlevoix, MI on our annual anniversay jaunt. When she realized we weren't going to feed her (because I'm sure that's why she came right up to us) she settled over into the grass in the sun. Her feather pattern and color was so pretty, that is my favorite shot. I was so intent on getting that, I wish I had focused more on her eye in the "awake" shot, but she obliged by going to sleep. The first three are were I ended up, the others were just for context & trying to figure out my composition. This is just with my canon sx700HS which I take everywhere because I can literally put it in my pocket, but I am getting better at using the settings on it. For these f 6.2, 1/125, ISO 320, probably too high ISO and too slow shutter for the bright sun she was sitting in? I was really trying to get the feathers so I was paying attention to her shadows instead of the highlights. Post I toned down the highlights & in the sleeping shot I moved the green saturation down just a little bit becuase I thought it was distracting from her.
