“Never waste time doing something important if there is a sunset you could be sitting under and marvelling at", the old man down the pub keeps saying. I once tried to enlighten him and explain that the sun is actually white but appears yellowish/red owing to atmospheric scattering, alas to no avail... His carefully appraising eye twitched as he put down his John Smiths: “Bollocks it is, have you been there, son?" I even thought of mentioning the one and only Rayleigh, but I would be flogging a dead horse, as he would simply parry, demure and riposte: “Is he playing for Arsenal?” You never win.
Isn’t it funny how the world works? Here in south-western England Twilight is whipping the curtains closed, meanwhile down the Gold Coast her alter ego, Aurora, is setting the eastern horizon aglow. What I am watching set, someone else on the other side of the world is watching rise. Nature is a mysterious mechanism in a tandem arrangement.
This place has served me a treat on a number of occasions, especially about this time of the day. On the same spot, in a similar setting, I shall again capture the magic of diffusion at work, while also take a chance to carry out more testing on Canon's ill-fated sensor dynamic range (Sony and Nikon, I can see you smiling). OK, it is not the best by a mile, but it is good enough, as this photo attests. This is the last one I am taking tonight. I have to pack up and make haste to the pub. The old man is waiting, as we need to talk about the game tomorrow. We have got Chelsea, away. Love it!

Thank you Anne... it is weird when the thick lower atmosphere takes the sting out of the glare from the sun and you can momentarily look at it. Only momentarily, mind you. That's the occasional much yearned for luck of the photographer.

I think I am going to publish a new anthology "The Pub Tales". Or maybe "Public House Tales"? Sounds more sophisticated.

I adore the subtle colours, instantly relaxing and soothing. Beautifully done Mick :) Aurora is asleep here as your skies are lit. Yes, truly amazing is our planet and truly amazing are your magical tales.. thanks :)))

Wow. Love this photo. I'm a keen sunset fan. I go to the park across the road from me most evenings.as the view is restricted from home. As soon as see a hint of pink/orange in the sky I race across the road to capture a stunner. I particularly loved your photo as it looked so natural & not editted with wild colours. Although I must admit the description tale swung the vote

Thank you ever so much for your vote and remarks, Janet. This very spot offers more than the sight of a mere tree, if you know where and how to look. Now and again, stars align and the rest is printed in the sensor...
