The Brighton Marine Palace & Pier is generally known as the Palace Pier and can be seen here from the pebble beach looking west on a late November afternoon with the sun setting behind it. Construction of the pier started in 1891 until being opened in 1899. Open all year it is a big attraction for the flocks of English day-trippers that regularly visit the City of Brighton. Brighton is only 60 miles south of London and therefore only an hour's drive away.
