"Lake Eppalock is near Bendigo in Victoria, Australia. The heavens have always been a source of fascination for me. This particular night was my birthday in May. Friends who live in Tasmania had been saying how strong the Aurora Australis was displaying to the South. Knowing I was too far north to see the Southern Lights I asked hubby as a special treat if he would take me out to the lake as there is very little light pollution there. Lucky for me he was more than happy to do that. The lights seen in the image are the lights of the city of Melbourne which is about 65 kilometers to the south.

I shot the image with my Canon EOS 5D Mk 111. The lens is a Canon 16-35mm. Aperture was wide open at f2.8 and the exposure time is 25secs. I focused on a distant light and my camera was tripod mounted. There was a gentle breeze on the lake, pushing the water toward me and this created a kind of star trail effect in the water." - Julienne
