Creative Composition Photo Contest Winners

Thank you to all the photographers that shared their photos showing creative compositions. The Grand Jury Winner will receive a choice of a Canon 5D MK III or Nikon D800 camera. A big thank you to Dan Carr for his collaboration as a judge. Dan is a senior photographer for the Canadian ski magazine Skier and his work has also been featured in ski and snowboard magazines from Japan to Canada and everywhere in between as well as innumerable commercial campaigns for an ever widening list of clients which includes top ski resorts such as Whistler Blackcomb, and outdoor sports companies such as Salomon and Oakley.

"There were a lot of incredible images in the finals for this contest but sticking with the theme of creative composition, "Bulb" by ornoir really jumped out at me when I saw it. I believe a great image should at first lead the eye to define the subject, but then encourage it to explore the rest of the photo afterwards. "Bulb" does this with an ingenious stairwell composition that captivates you as you see the lightbulb shape but then intrigues you as you realize it's not a lightbulb at all, but instead a staircase. I immediately found the spiralling stairwell lead my eye all over the image to explore it, right up to the exit in the top corner. A truly unique composition! Well done ornoir! " - Dan Carr

"What I loved about this image was that to begin with it made me wonder how Erik did it. Is he the roller blader himself? In fact the whole story is eventually revealed in the shadows where you can see the camera being held low with the camera strap to shoot this very creative composition from just inches about the ground." - Dan Carr

"Darren's wonderful image is full of peace and intrigue and I love that! The curve of these stones leads you right across the image to the curious post at the end and nice gentle gradients in the black and white conversion help to maintain the tranquility of this scene. I definitely found myself wondering what was build on these stone foundations? What, if anything, is on the post at the end? I love an intriguing image that leaves you with a little mystery to think about." - Dan Carr
