For this colors photo contest, we invited community members to share their best shots showing light or pastel colors with chances to win a Manfrotto Advanced Befree backpack and more.
A special thanks to friend and professional photographer Mark Forbes for his collaboration as a guest judge in this photo contest. Mark Forbes is best known for his considered and atmospheric photography of street scenes, urban landscapes and structures. He employs film as his medium of choice for personal work - using both traditional 35mm and medium format cameras.
Here are 3 easy tips to get pastel colors in your photos:
1. Get familiar with pastel colors
Pastel colors have enough white to make the color look pale and soft. The most commonly used pastel colors are pink, light azure, creamy mint, and whimsy yellow.
2. Try natural light to capture pastel colors
Natural light is wildly available and if you know your equipment you can get bright and pastel colors almost effortlessly. Outdoor light changes throughout the day but that will help you experiment what time of the day will yield to the tones you are after. Natural light will create a creamy tone.
3. Use Adobe Photoshop to get pastel colors
Set the white balance on your camera to cloudy or shade mode. This setting will bring out the golden rich tones you see in photos showing great pastel colors. On Photoshop use the White Balance features such as Temperature and Tint to bring out the pastel color you desire in your photo.
