I captured this image on Castle Lake Road in Siskiyou County, California, USA on a late October 2021 afternoon. The sun was getting fairly low in the sky to camera right and beyond the trees around the curve in the road. The scene was absolutely majestic with the oaks in such vibrant fall colors.

I captured this image on Castle Lake road in Siskiyou County California, USA.Time
It was very late on an October afternoon as the sinking sun was backlighting the trees up the road.Lighting
The maples and oaks were wonderfully backlit by late afternoon golden hour sunlight.Equipment
I captured this frame with my Canon 6D Mark II with my trusty 24-105 f4L lens mounted atop my rock solid Benro Mach III tripod and ballhead.Inspiration
One glance at the wonderful lighting and vivid golden fall colors was all it took to get me to pull the car over and grab a frame. At this late time of day in the off-season for the area, I was the only one around so it was not only visually beautiful but wonderfully peaceful as well.Editing
Aside from my normal minor adjustments in Adobe Lightroom I did take the artistic liberty to digitally remove the yellow dashed lines separating the lanes of the road as they had been painted and repainted a few times and were not very aesthetically pleasing to my eyes.In my camera bag
It varies depending on the day's objective but my trusty 6DII is always with me as is my 24-105 workhorse lens. I also commonly carry a Canon R7 with my EF 100-400 in case I encounter any wildlife. Quite frequently, I'm carrying a full spectrum modified Canon 6D along with several filters for infrared and visible light photography. I'm also never without plenty of batteries, a handheld Garmin GPS, and several 77mm filters including my circular polarizer and several levels of neutral density filters.Feedback
It helps to do lots of advanced scouting and follow social media as autumn approaches as it varies year to year and the perfect colors often happen in a fairly narrow window. I caught them about right this time but I've certainly missed plenty of times as well. Mostly, just get out there every chance you get as you won't get ANY image if you don't!
