Location
This was taken in the woods in Sleen, Drenthe where I like to walk my dogs. I spotted this felled tree trunk in a small clearing and asked my girl to jump up on it and she gave me the perfect pose!Time
This was taken late afternoon the day before St. Patrick's Day. I had gone out to photograph something for that but instead found this great location for this photo.Lighting
As it was in the woods the location was shaded but with some nice light coming through to catch her eyes, some of the log and some nice accents in the scene.Equipment
This was shot with my very old Nikon D3S and my even older Nikon 80-200mm f2.8.Inspiration
I love to find beautiful places in the woods with dogs. I've always loved the idea of enchanted forests and I love the tranquility of nature. I'm also an enormous dog lover. In my photography I love to combine these things to create dreamy scenes.Editing
In this photo I cleaned up some distracting branches in the background and removed the mud and forest debris from my dog. I also removed the greens to create this warm mellow scene. In my camera bag
My gear is pretty old. I always have my Nikon D3s, a Nikon 80-200mm f2.8, a Nikon 135mm f2 and a Nikon 14-24mm f2.8. Non camera related items that I aways have that are absolutely essential are the super stinky dog treats, the special dog toys that only come out when I'm shooting, a towel for the dogs to deal with the mud, water for the pups and something for me to lie on when I have to lie on the muddy ground!Feedback
If the dog is comfortable you'll get the best results. My girl likes this lying down pose so I go with her strengths. If she's not happy to do something I never push it and we always include games and treats so she's engaged and not looking bored or stressed.
