Magpies are intelligent birds with a fascinating way of life. Until the age of three, magpies live in 'youth gangs'. In it they gain the experience that a magpie needs to be able to raise young. Magpies eat what they can find: most of their menu consists of leatherettes, beetles, earthworms and human waste such as chips and bread. Especially in the breeding season, when the magpies themselves have young, supplemented with eggs from other birds and sometimes also young birds.
