Location
This photo was taken in Perth's famous The Crawley Edge Boatshed, commonly referred to as the Blue Boat House in Perth, Western Australia.Time
The plan was to get to the spot after work on Friday and shot this location until no more light. Unfortunately, upon my arrival there was one other photographer on the location. As this location only fit 1 tripod on the pathway, I have to wait for my turn. While waiting, I tried to find more creative angle of the famous boat house. We also chatted for a bit, mostly about camera gears before left. With the golden hour fast disappearing, I set my tripod to get the hero shot. I didn't get the golden hour version that I wanted but I waited until 6:30 PM to get this photo.Lighting
The challenge is not the light itself, but the clouds. I have made several attempts shooting this location with no clouds and it's not great. That's why on this particular photo, I check the weather often during the week. However, I didn't expect this mass of clouds moving in that day. I was glorious! The golden light with moving clouds create excellent composition. I was the perfect day to shoot landscape.Equipment
This was shot with Canon EOS 6D with Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM lens on a tripod. I also use Lee Filters Big Stopper and Lee Filters 0.6 Grad Neutral Density Soft Filter with remote shutter to reduce shakes.Inspiration
This was a famous photo spot and everyone has their own version of it. I wanted my own version of photo. I sort of memento of my time living in Perth.Editing
Since I like to do most of the work onsite, The post-processing itself is kept to minimal. This including fixing the horizon, sharpen the photo, clean it from the dust spots appearing during long exposure, and add a bit of "yellow" (as the golden hour is fast disappearing). In my camera bag
I normally carry Canon EOS 6D with Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM and Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM along with a tripod, set for filters from Lee Filters, and extra battery and memory cards.Feedback
Be prepare and patience. Try and try again (although is not possible if you don't lives or stay in the area for extended time) and the rest is luck.
