The Hotel Belvédère on the Swiss Furka Pass, completed in 1882, has had an eventful history, marked by closings, renovations and reopenings. After around 100 years in family ownership, the canton of Valais briefly owned the hotel before it was sold again to a private investor who leased it. The Pope is said to have been a guest here at the beginning of the 20th century, and Sean Connery allegedly stayed at the Belvédère on a regular basis later. In the film "Goldfinger" he chases himself in an Aston Martin with Tilly Masterson in a Ford Mustang on the Furka Pass. Unfortunately, the hotel and the restaurant have been closed permanently since 2015.
