Abstract City Street photography. This photograph was taken on a trip to new York a number of years ago. The original was taken with my old trusty Olympus OM2SP using vintage black and white film stock and a high ISO and a creative technique that i like to use of taking images as i am actually moving as well as seeing action around me. A personal creative choice I find it creates a rich grainy quality that produces images that appear to be from a vintage newspaper or magazine. A further experimental choice for myself with my old developed photographs is to choose not to scan them , but to retake them using a digital camera , also at a high ISO and often with the addition of colour filters instead of using the lightroom functions. I think it adds again to the retro nostalgic quality of a photograph once lost and potentially tarnished over time on its reappearance. A chose to look at my old New York Rain Walk session recently because of the flooding in the area which reminded me of the deluge I had passed through. This image particularly caught my eye as a symbolic representation of the floods on that cities streets because of the chillingly ironic and uncannily prophetic statements on the billboards. it seems to warn people to , 'hideaway', and misread the sign shouts , 'end of days', the feeling of crisis occurring below the neon glitter accentuated by the oncoming police car rushing to someone's aid. Urban Action Photography.
