This photo was taken at an indoor butterfly garden for tropical butterflies in the upper Midwest. About a thousand butterflies fill a tropical garden and provide photographers and other visitors an opportunity to see and capture their beauty.Time
This photo was taken in the middle of the afternoon on a sunny summer day.Lighting
The glass enclosed butterfly garden allows natural light to fill the space and change the light depending on time of day and weather. This picture was taken in afternoon sun augmented by interior lights.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3400 with the 70-300mm lens.Inspiration
I love photographing butterflies and spend many hours in butterfly habitats indoors and outdoors. I appreciate their beauty and shape. When in flight, butterflies seem to float in the air and move in all directions effortlessly. I’ve focused on photos of butterflies in flight recently and this is one of my favorites depicting some unusual movements.Editing
A little correction for light balance and brightness is all.In my camera bag

Find what you like to photograph. Surround yourself with that subject and take lots of pictures. Experiment with various camera settings until you find the combinations that produce the results you like. I try to control for color, the capture of speed or action, light, and depth of field. When you find the settings you prefer, keep shooting pictures and have fun.
