Location
This photo is from Ovrisdalen, Vik i Sogn, Norway. This valley lies close by Sognefjorden, the longest (205km) and deepest (1303m) fjord in Norway.Time
This picture was taken late evening at 19:51 in march.Lighting
I live in Vik i Sogn, close by, and has for a long time hoping for the right condition to take this photo. Several things had to be right. The clouds had to be in right height and not to thick down in the valley. The light had to be dim so the artificial light from the farms in the valley would be visible through the coluds. The dim light at late evening also gives the snow a nice blue glow contrasting the warm light from the farms in the valley.Equipment
The photo was shot with PENTAX K3 and HD PENTAX-DA 16-85mm F3.5-5.6 ED DC WR lens and a tripod.Inspiration
I live close to this scene, and are often driving over Vikafjell (mountain). Some times coming back from a trip at late evening and with low clouds I could se this spectacular scene, and decided to try catching this scene as a photography. After several attempts I succeeded taking this photo.Editing
I take photos in raw format, so I always do some post processing to add extra contrast, colour and luminosity. This photo I took in 2017 and don't remember exactly which corrections I did for this photo. In my camera bag
I have three different equipment setups depending on what plans I have. 1. I almost always bring my RICOH GR III compact camera. I takes great pictures with its APS-C sensor, is ridiculous smal which 2. makes it easy to bring inn all situations and peoples think it is i cheap camera and does not take much notice of it. When hiking or are planing to take picture og animals or birds i bring my PENTAX K3 III and HD PENTAX-DA 16-85mm F3.5-5.6 ED DC WR and PENTAX SMC DA* 300mm f/4 ED (IF) SDM. This gives me a relatively light camera gear set up cowering form wide angel 16mm for landscape to 300mm tele for animals, birds and landscape. 3. When planning specific photo task I bring my big gear, and gives the best control and image quality. PETNAX K1 II, PENTAX HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm f/2.8ED SDM WR, PENTAX HD PENTAX-D FA 15-30mm f/2.8 ED SDM WR and PENTAX HD PENTAX-D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 ED DC AW. The backpack is also filles with a tripod, ND-filerts and polaroid filters.Feedback
You are depending on the weather condition to take this kind og picture . It is important to find an interesting scene in forehand that a will give a god result and be ready when the conditions are right. Tripod is necessary and you have to expect to try several before you succeed.
