The “Blauwe Kamer” brick kiln dates, as it stands today, from 1881. It is a so-called “flame kiln”. It has been a successful field oven until 1975 after it was abandoned. The ruin of this field furnace and chimney is now repossessed by nature.
In a field oven, the bricks to be fired were loosely stacked between two solid walls and then covered with a layer of clay. Beneath the stones were a number of fires, which were supplied with fuel through gates in the two walls. It took a lot of coal fuel and resulted in very variable baking. .
