Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Fuerteventura, in Spain. I was hired to make a photoshoot of this new brand property in the North of the island.

Time

This image was taken during the blue hour, in a beautiful summer sunset.

Lighting

I waited until it got dark enough for the lights inside the building to show up properly. I was lucky to have some clouds so I got some colored texture in the sky.

Equipment

I used a wide angle to get a good perspective from this point of view. The lens is a 14-24mm with a maximum aperture of 2.8 throughout the entire focal range.

Inspiration

This is a commissioned work for a new brand building made mostly out of wood. The owner wanted to have some pictures to send to an architecture magazine in Germany.

Editing

Post work was very light in this image. A few small touches in color and contrast to make an image more seductive.

In my camera bag

Usually I work with my Sony A7III and my 35mm f1..4 lens. For this job I worked with a 14-24mm f2.8 lens to get a more angular perspective. Recently I add a 50mm f1.8 and a 28-70mm f4 to my bag to have more versatility in my portfolio.

Feedback

This is an easy image to produce with the right equipment: It is necessary to work with a tripod because there is no much light at this time of the day, so shutter speed may be quite low. Using a remote shutter release is also a good idea, to avoid camera shake. The next thing is to find a good point of view from where you can see the whole building, the pool and a bit of the surroundings. To get the sky I placed the camera about a meter from the ground.
