There is such a story embedded here, inviting the viewer to imagine, compose, and, perhaps, mourn or celebrate. Very effective!

Your description is as moving as the image. Textures of emotion. Congratulations on your well deserved award.

In Portugal you can find the most wonderful worn doors and windows, I have photographed many of them there. Portuguese members of Viewbug often recognize them as being Portuguese!Time
It took this photo at the end of the day.Lighting
The light is natural, no flash and no direct sunlight. I couldn't go back for another try at a different time of day with different light because we had to travel on. When I saw the result I was quite happy with the lack of sunlight as it adds to the story of this window. Shut off from the world, no sunlight can enter the house anymore.Equipment
I always carry my wonderful Lumix DMC-TZ60 pocket camera with me, and shot this photo free out of hand without any extra equipment.Inspiration
As I was walking through the city, I saw this wonderful and strange window with the curtains seeming to hang outside between the broken glass and the bricks, closing the window for always... Windows are the eyes of a house, when you close your eyes from the inside... you stop living and the window becomes an object, the house will merely be a collection of bricks and memories. Shut off from the rest of the world, no air or light can enter the house anymore, leaving it as a relic of what once was a home...Editing
I edited this photo for the second time in Lightroom, the first time it was edited in Picasa. The difference is clear, Lightroom offers you the possibility to make a not so well taken photo look a lot better. I had to take this photo very quickly and we couldn't go back because we were on route traveling. In my camera bag
I don't have a bag of equipment at all, only my Lumix DMC-TZ60, a wonderful intelligent automatic pocket camera which practically fits in my back pocket. It shows that you do not have to use expensive and big cameras to achieve nice results...Feedback
In this case I can give little advice as this window was wonderful as it was... When I walk through a city or anywhere else, I always look around me very carefully to see the details of which the world around me is build up. I try to look through a pinhole, without forgetting the whole picture. When I take the photo, I always take a few steps back to take a wider shot so I can crop it later to the exact dimensions I like. Take more shots with slightly different settings so you can choose the best one later. Once you open your laptop, the magic of today's world begins... I always crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop and edit the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!
