This photo was taken in my back yard last month. I live in Mountain Home, Arkansas. My husband set up bird feeders all over the back yard and there is a large stump in the middle of them. We put out food regularly and include some for the squirrels. This little fellow is one of the frequent visitors.Time
I am trying to set up a schedule for shooting everyday so I make time for one of my favorite things, taking pictures of local wildlife. This photo was taken mid-afternoon. And this guy was quite accommodating.Lighting
The lighting was all natural, nothing special.Equipment
I was just shooting with the camera. I usually shoot handheld because the situations I shoot in are fluid and constantly changing. I was using a Nikon Coolpix B600.Inspiration
I have always been drawn to flowers, birds and little critters. And Arkansas has no shortness of these subjects. I am reminded of years gone by where I was able to go into the bush and just take pictures all day long.Editing
Most post processing is beyond my experience. I do basic things like contrast, lighting, enlarging aspects of the picture, things like that. There are few pictures that don't require fixing; this was one of those. The day was crisp and so was this shot. The only thing was enlarging my friend's face.In my camera bag
Seeing as I mostly work from home, I have all of my equipment ready and at my finger tips.Feedback
Patience is the only thing I know to get this kind of picture. It can take me days before the birds and squirrels or even the cats and dogs to cooperate with me. I suppose there is always don't be afraid of taking as many pictures as possible. When we used film, that was expensive and we needed to make the picture in the darkroom. Now, it doesn't bother me to take as many pictures as needed until I am sure of the shot. Those little critters either cooperate or not.
