This valley carved out of granites and gneisses is recognized by a strong glacial imprint. In the depressions and on the slopes, peat bogs of all kinds have settled: lakes, sloping bogs, or even high bogs surrounded by natural spruce forests. There are two major peatlands separated by a kilometer: the peat bogs and Lispach Lake on one side, and the Ténine bog on the other.
Lake Lispach is a semi-natural body of water. At an altitude of 912 meters, it occupies a hollow shaped by glaciers and provided with an artificial dam. This lake is occupied on almost half of its surface by a peat raft, or floating peat bog which gives all its charm to the place and which illustrates an important phase in the evolution of a peat bog, gradually occupying the surface of the water.
