The word ' Autumnalis ' in the Latin name of the flowering cherry Prunus 'Autumnalis Rosea' refers to the flowering period that starts in October and lasts until December.
The bloom is not always very well noticeable when there are still leaves on the tree. That depends on the weather in the autumn. However, a second bloom usually follows in early spring. Inconspicuous black fruits are formed that are not suitable for consumption. 'Autumnalis' is the most resistant cherry to cold and heat. However, the wood is not very strong and can break off in the wind or when covered with a thick layer of snow.
