Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during the autumn season close to Telluride, Colorado. I live near Denver and made a special trip to Southern Colorado to photograph fall colors and came across this scene as I was driving down to Telluride.

Time

This photo was taken during the morning at about 9:00 am, just as the sun was coming over the mountains to the east (left of this scene).

Lighting

The soft morning light helped to create nightlights and shadows across the trees and mountains throughout the scene. The clouds above the mountains helped provide added depth.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D750 camera with a Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 lens.

Inspiration

The beautiful colors and the clouds over the mountain caught my attention. I also wanted to include the road to provide a leading line into the scene.

Editing

Most of the post processing was done in Adobe Lightroom, with modest adjustments to highlights, shadows and contrast.

In my camera bag

I currently carry a Nikon Z7-2 and Nikon D850 along with a variety of lenses from Nikon, Tamron, Sigma and Lensbaby. I also carry a Nikon Z5 that has been converted to infrared.

Feedback

My advice is to get outdoors during the early morning and late evening hours to capture landscape scenes with soft light.
