Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the City of Arts and Sciences, a cultural and architectural complex in the city of Valencia, Spain.

Time

This was in the afternoon.

Lighting

Fortunately there was a lot of cloud cover so that the light was not too harsh.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D5500 with a Tamron zoom lens 28 - 400 mm: 1/125 sec. f/11 at 65mm.

Inspiration

I am inspired by architecture and this is a unique place. What I wanted is to get a sense of scale so I put the people low in the frame to emphasize the size of the buildings. Fortunately, there was an interesting sky.

Editing

I used Topaz with the Black and White plug-in. I thought the blue toning gave a interesting feel and it matched the overall aqua color in the water and reflected in the glass in the original image.

In my camera bag

In addition to the Tamron 18-400 mm zoom, I also carry a Tamron 90 mm Macro lens. For filters, I often use a circular polarizing filter and a variable neutral density filter.

Feedback

Keep some people in the frame to give a sense of scale and if possible wait until the people are separated and not bunched up together.
