Location
I took this shot along the foreshore of Tin Can Bay Qld Australia, I only live a short distance from this location. I finally found my passion in life when I picked up a old camera I had laying around. From that day I decided to learn more about Photography and my camera. Yes i did do a small course and got a diploma, but I have to say I learnt more from knowing my camera and using it as much as possible.Time
This particular morning, I headed out to capture a sunrise at 4 am. before the sun started to rise. I picked up my old faithful camera and jumped in the car hoping to capture something beautiful in the morning light. It's still pitch black as I readied my camera and equipment.Lighting
Do your research prior to the event like the time of dawn and location. Sunrises you do need to be there before the sun actually lights up the darkness It's amazing to watch don't blink or you'll miss the moment as the scene changes quickly with the lightEquipment
My old trusty Panasonic Lumix still takes great shots. This shot was on F/3.2 1/20 ISO 100 The position i had to get to was in water and on stairs so I couldn't use my tripod but the railing came in handy to steady the camera. No other equipment used besides my cameraInspiration
I have always been an early bird and go walking along the foreshore I just adore nature and wanted to try to capture an inviting scene of colour and mystery to entice the viewer into the darkness of lightEditing
Just a little tweak here and there with cropping, contrast and a little bit of smoothing to capture the essence of mystical light and darknessIn my camera bag
Being prepared for just about anything with landscape photography is my goal. Firstly a waterproof bag is a necessity and/or Rain cover. I have my Panasonic Lumix which is a point and shoot (use mostly as a backup now) cleaning equipment tripod and now a Canon 90D 18 - 135mm lens, 70 - 200mm lens, filters, rain covers and small tool kit with a small torchFeedback
Get everything ready the night before as you will be up before the crack of dawn. Check batteries and spares are charged and all equipment cleaned and ready. Be patient and soak in the natural dawn light and all it's changes also be ready to adjust your settings quickly to suit the light. Let someone know where you're going better to be safe than sorry Have fun with the sun and all it's glorious colours and light
