This photo is captured in Stavanger, Norway. The lake "Mosvannet" is a very popular place for citizens and tourists. There's a vide and nice path suitable for everyone on bicycle, jogging, strollers or parents with toddlers.Time
I've been taking pictures around this lake all times of day. Night as well. This particular picture is taken right after sunset. I was sitting in my room and noticed the sky turned in to a reddish colour..I grabbed my camera and walked to the lake. I took some pictures but wasn't happy with the light so I went for a walk around the lake. Back on the spot I had decided to take a picture the light was perfect.Lighting
I was waiting for the right moment to get the golden glow I wanted. Right after sunset I got the right light and could capture the moment in the way I wanted.Equipment
I shot this with my Leica M9 and a Summicron 50mm. It is an HDR of 3 pictures. As I did this handheld I am extremely happy with the result.Inspiration
Some years ago I took a picture at the same spot with a couple in silhouette in front. I've been very happy with that picture but felt the sky could be even better. That's why I went back. This time there wasn't any people present but ducks on the water was a good replacement.Editing
This is an HDR of 3 pictures. Luckily I could sit down and support my elbows on my knees as I didn't bring a tripod.I post-processed in Adobe Camera Raw and merged the pictures in Photoshop. A little work on shadows, highlight, spot removal and building contrast. In my camera bag
First of all. I feel naked without a camera when I'm out for a stroll. Yes I've got my iPhone but it's still not the same (for me anyways) When I walk around in the city or take the dog for a walk I bring my Leica M9 and very often I stick the Summicron 50mm on it. For my M9 I've got a 35mm a 50mm and a 90mm. My creativity raises when using prime lenses. I go out with one camera, one lens and can do almost anything. When I have a planned photoshoot I Bring my M9 with lenses and my Leica SL with a Vario-Elmarit 24-90mm. I also bring a single flash, a tripod and a reflector. Even my analog Bronica medium format comes with me from time to time.Feedback
I think there is a good thing to pick your spot in daylight. It can be pretty stressful to look for the perfect spot in half darkness while you see all the beautiful light disappears. When you know where your spot is you go straight there and are ready when the light is on its best. It is better to be there too early than too late. I think best light is right after sunset. But that's me. If you want to do HDR as I did here I recommend you bring a tripod. It is so much better. If you don't have any experience with HDR you should read about it and do some testing before you head out. The best HDR pictures are the pictures where you can't see it is an HDR. Unfortunately lot of people in my opinion overdo the technic.
