Location
This photo was taken on Moreton Island, Queensland. We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary!Time
It was approximately 6.15pm on our first night on the Island. We could see a bit of a crowd forming out the front of our accommodation so I grabbed the camera to check out what all the commotion was about! Turns out it was a full moon - known as the Harvest Moon falling on Friday 13th September 2019!Lighting
The lighting was all supplied by the Blood Moon above us. There may have been some soft footpath lighting, but nothing that really added or detracted from nature's spectacle!Equipment
No time to grab tripod, just shot out the door with my trusty Nikon D5100 which happened to have the 55-300mm 4.5-5.6G ED lens attached. ISO 200 f/8. 1/125s.Inspiration
If you were there, there would be NO WAY anyone would NOT want to try and capture that Harvest Moon. It was out of this world. I've seen many full moons before, but this was unbelievable. I think because it was a Blood Moon, it illuminated the sky after a picture perfect day of sunshine. No wind and not a cloud in the sky made it surreal and the perfect start to our wedding celebrations!Editing
You know what.... I hardly had to do a thing to this image. I think the only editing involved was bit of cropping - just to centre the Harvest Moon.In my camera bag
Since this image was taken - I have upgraded from the D5100 to the 7500. My camera bag ALWAYS has a tripod, my Nikon P900 Superzoom, my new baby - Nikon 7500 with 70-300mm and 18-55mm lenses. I also have some binoculars, a hat, hand sanitiser (thanks COVID), the little Sony Cybershot RX100 for fun, a battery hand held fan (I sit in the sun a lot watching my son play football (soccer) and it gets very VERY hot here in summer in Qld, Australia. Spare battery, a 20cent coin to tighten my tripod mount and I have recently acquired a Kaiser Baas action camera to dabble with some underwater stills!Feedback
The thing is..... you never know when you will find yourself in a 'moment'! I guess that's why I have the little pocket Sony Cybershot on me all the time because I don't want to EVER miss a moment! I also subscribe to meteorology websites that advise when we may expect to see something wonderful in the night sky.
