Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at a hotel in the northern suburbs of Chicago.Time
The model and I schedule our shoot around midday. Being inside, we were able to control the lightning so that I was able to set up my lights the way I wanted and get different effects and highlights and shadows.Lighting
This shot was the result of experimenting with my lights. I am no means an expert, and this was a general, go with the flow type of shoot. I didn't have a specific plan, or story I was trying to tell. I mostly wanted to showcase the model in the shot. I usually use my two adjustable LED lights set to a warmer, yellow light and I used the other with a green gel filter to throw some blue light behind the model.Equipment
I have used my Canon EOS Rebel SL1 and my 35mm prime lens for this shot. The lights are Neweer LEDs and I use a variety of gel filters.Inspiration
This shoot took place in mid-March, so the color choices were inspired by St. Patrick's Day.Editing
I cropped the photo to 5x7, and did some light correction and brightened up some of the colors. In my camera bag
I have my Canon Rebel SL1, my 35mm, 55mm and now 85mm prime lenses. I also usually carry Neewer lights for any indoor shoots.Feedback
Try different things. Stick to what you like, but don't be afraid to branch out. Don't try too hard to pose the model, just let them drive the poses and experiment with angles and different shots.
