Location
This photo was taken from the rocky coast from below the Portland Head Lighthouse in Cape ElizabethTime
On the last day of my trip to Portland, ME I left just after lunch to venture to this infamous landmark.Lighting
My goal here was to capture more than the lighthouse. Given its prominence it’s well know, so I aimed to capture some movement and mood within the photo to help it stand apart.Equipment
Nikon D5200 with a Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5Inspiration
I love exploring well known landmarks as well as obscure places when I travel. I made it a point to map this out on my way home to try out my new wide angle lens.Editing
I enhanced some of the shadows and hues within the photo and turned it black and white, but this was minimally touched in post processing. In my camera bag
My 2 Nikon bodies, my wide angle lens, and a prime 50mm are always in my bag no matter where I travel.Feedback
Never be afraid to try the “lesser” angles. Be patient and explore the world around you, find what clicks (get it, ha) for you and then find a way to express that to others - even if it’s in a way that’s not normal or widely accepted. Your photography is your story.
