Location
This photo was taken in my back yard where many hummingbirds visit me. I was very surprised when I saw my photo because the red feathers on this male really show how intricate they are.Time
Mid-dayLighting
It was a lightly overcast day and I was fairly certain I would not get a great photo without direct sun which would enhance the beautiful colors on his wings and body. I was so pleased to discover the lighting was perfect for detailing his neck feathers.Equipment
Powershot Canon SX600Inspiration
I find it challenging to get clear interesting photos of wildlife; especially birds because just when you have your subject focused they often flit off somewhere. I was inspired to get a good photo of a male hummingbird and when I saw how the light was perfect for showing his warning to other hummingbirds not to touch his food supply. I called my photo Sentinel because male hummingbirds are very protective when it comes to their feeders and most times they will not let females or their offspring near it hence the red feathers to ward off potential competition.Editing

Just my camera, tripod and extra batteries. I also use a Kodak PixPro AZ401.Feedback
Patience. I have shot many pictures of hummingbirds but this picture is one of my favourites. Focus and orientation are also important to get a clear attractive photo
