I took this photo at Mariel; my brother’s latest restaurant in Boston. The culinary team for the group is at the top in the city, and it’s always a pleasure representing their art with my own.Time
This image was shot in the early afternoon several months ago; artificial lighting.Lighting
I have transitioned almost solely to food/beverage photography in my career. This shoot gave me the confidence to advance in the field.Equipment
I shot this with my canon body (7D mark II), single speed light with a soft box. No tripod as I like to move fluidly when working into the composition. I believe this shot was with my Sigma 35 mm 1.4 art series lens).Inspiration
Well, the inspiration for this shot was action, motion. I wanted to draw the viewer in to the point where they can almost taste the finishing touches being added. My goal is to actually get the viewer to salivate!Editing
I do light post processing with my food photography. Slight de-noise, minor healing brush, and a few other minor adjustments. In my camera bag
Are usually carry my canon body, sigma 35 mm, Canon 70 to 200 mm, and then generally a wide angle lens. These are the main pieces of equipment I use. Even when I travel to shoot this is my go-to equipment.Feedback
My suggestion for any other photographers out there trying to create images like this: The first thing I always do is get my proper light setting. I will position a single light source at a proper angle, generally from the side or even behind so I’m lighting towards the camera. In food photography this helps the image transform into a more three dimensional picture. After my light is set I then work into a composition I feel is most attractive or enticing. Composition is one of the most important things when creating an image; in my opinion. Best of luck to you, and never stop learning!
